Dr. Samuel Berlin                     

I am a social and cultural geographer and ethnographer at Durham University, UK.

My research focuses on how people experience economic development in their everyday lives in contemporary China.

I finished my PhD in 2021 at the University of Bristol. After that, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the project Atmospheres of (counter)terrorism in European cities.

In a previous life, I was a Chinese-English translator. This taught me a surprisingly large amount of vocabulary related to mining equipment, which I have now mostly forgotten.
