Dr. Samuel Berlin

Power!

I am an economic and cultural geographer at Durham University, UK.

My research uses ethnographic and narrative methods to understand how people experience development in their everyday lives in peri-urban China.

I finished my PhD in 2021 at the University of Bristol. After that, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the project Atmospheres of (counter)terrorism in European cities.

In a previous life, I was a Chinese-English translator. This taught me a surprisingly large amount of vocabulary related to mining equipment, which I have now mostly forgotten.

Find me on Google Scholar, or download my CV here. You can find my contact details on my Durham University staff page.
